Plated mail was an armor type most commonly worn by elven nobility, although quite few early human empires used it as armor for their most important leaders. It was a composite armor, with a coat of plates covering torso and splinted greaves and vambraces covering the lower legs and arms, while the rest of the upper body was covered with fine ringed, short sleeved mail, as were the upper legs. It was fairly comfortable to wear, as the arms had less lose weight as compared to a simple full mail, and a less stiff torso protection compared to a breast plate, but donning it would take some time.
Most human and elven empires switched to either the custom fit plate mail with its greater protection, or the generic chainmail because of the lower cost.
